Brunch / Brinner

Zu unserem »Familientag im Frühling« am Internationalen Museumstag am 17.05.2026, ab 11 bis 17 Uhr, servieren Marie Donike und Johannes Specks ein »Brunch/Brinner« im Rahmen der Veranstaltungsreihe »vesper – The Breakfast Edition«.

Serviert wird ein spätes nordrheinwestfälisches Frühstück bzw. ein frühes nordrheinwestfälisches Abendessen. Wobei die Bestandteile auch ein gutes Mittagessen ergeben.

Brunch setzt sich aus den Worten ‘breakfast’ und ‘lunch’ zusammen und bezeichnet so eine Mahlzeit, die aus Komponenten des Frühstücks und des Mittagessens besteht. Als ‘brinner’ (Breakfast for Dinner) wird sowohl eine Mahlzeit bezeichnet, die aus Elementen des Frühstücks und des Abendessens besteht, als auch ein Frühstück, das am Abend serviert wird. Marie Donike und Johannes Specks bereiten den Besucher:innen eine solche Mahlzeit zu, arrangiert aus ortsüblichen Zutaten, neu interpretiert für Zeit und Raum, um gemeinsam gegessen zu werden.

In ihrer gemeinsamen künstlerischen Arbeitweise untersuchen Marie Donike und Johannes Specks kulturhistorische Aspekte der Kulinarik und Orte der Geselligkeit. Ihre Installationen machen Räume zu Orten, an denen Menschen zusammenkommen.

For our »Familyday in Spring« during the International Museum Day, on Sunday, May 17, 2026, starting at 11 am till 5 pm, Marie Donike and Johannes Specks will serve a »brunch/brinner« in the framework of the event series »vesper – The Breakfast Edition«.

What is served is a late North Rhine-Westphalian breakfast or an early North Rhine-Westphalian dinner. That said, the components also make for a good lunch.

Brunch is a portmanteau of the words ‘breakfast’ and ‘lunch’ and thus refers to a meal consisting of elements of both breakfast and lunch. The term ‘brinner’ (breakfast for dinner) refers both to a meal comprising elements of breakfast and dinner, and to a breakfast served in the evening. Marie Donike and Johannes Specks prepare such a meal for visitors, arranged from local ingredients, reinterpreted for time and space, to be eaten together.

In their collaborative artistic practice, Marie Donike and Johannes Specks explore the cultural and historical aspects of cuisine and places of social gathering. Their installations transform spaces into places where people come together.
